In the 2012 election, voters under 30 will make up 24% of the voting population. Unfortunately, in 2010 only 22.8% of eligible youth voters cast a ballot, as compared to 40.8% of all voters. Many youth voters are students, increasing the importance that student voting plays in shaping our politics. As a result, colleges and universities play a pivotal role in the election process because of their ability to provide students with the information they need to register and vote.
