Abrahan Cid

Miami Dade College

Abrahan Cid is a second year student at Miami Dade Honors College. He is the president of the Economics Club and an officer of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. He plans to transfer to Cornell University to pursue a degree in Applied Economics. His interest in politics started during the 2012 presidential elections, the first political campaign that he experienced after immigrating that same year from Cuba, a country where democracy has been absent for more than 50 years. He got involved in the Campus Vote Project as a Democracy Fellow in order to be an active participant in the current presidential election and to promote the importance of being engaged in the political process among his fellow students and community members.

Sommer Curry

Miami Dade College

Sommer Curry was born in Los Angeles, California. She is a student, wife, mother, mentor and educator in the Beauty Industry. As an entrepreneur she has over 15 years of experience in communication and public speaking. Currently she is enrolled in Miami Dade College in Homestead, Florida, studying in the field of Business. She a certified Poll worker with the Miami Elections Department and is also a certified Community Health worker. She is hard working, caring, loving and passionate about the community in which she resides, while striving to make a lasting change in the lives of people around her.

Carolina Panduro

Miami Dade College

Carolina Panduro was born in Lima, Perú. She is a second year student at Miami Dade Honors College. She is a communications major who wishes to pursue a career in the media and travel often. In her free time, she likes to read, bake and exercise. She is vegan and loves dogs, as well as meeting new people. She wants Hispanic students to get more involved in elections and make their voices be heard. She believes that this project can help students be better informed when it comes to voting for a certain candidate and for this year’s election.

Gabrielle Higgins

University of Central Florida

Gabrielle is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science at the University of Central Florida. She is consistently involved in initiatives that promote diversity, civic engagement, and education on and off her campus. In previous semesters her involvement included collaborations with UCF’s Social Justice and Advocacy department, and studying leadership development as a Lead Scholar. Gabbie is looking forward to teaming up with other members of the Campus Vote Project to make increased student voting access a reality.

Brittney Owens

University of Central Florida

Brittney Owens was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. She is a recent graduate of The University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida where she received her BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, studying health science, public affairs, and anthropology. She is pursuing a second degree in nursing and hopes to get involved in health policy, advocacy, and to pursue her JD in the future. She currently serves on the Volunteer UCF board of directors as the civic engagement director, educating students on national and community issues and the political process at all levels. Brittney is thrilled to be working as a fellow on her campus in the upcoming election season.

Matthew Pearson

Santa Fe College

Matthew Pearson is a second-year History Major at Santa Fe College who is passionate about politics and civic engagement. Matthew has been a strong anchor for the Model UN team and has participated in multiple national conferences. Currently Matthew serves as the Speaker of the House for the Florida Model Legislature program which holds a mock legislative session for Florida colleges and universities. This past year Matthew served as the Student Senate President Pro-Tempore for the Student Government at Santa Fe College where he championed a number of legislative reforms and helped encourage a record voter turnout for student elections. Matthew also served as a Legislative Liaison for the 4th District of the Florida College System Student Government Association where he lobbied on the behalf of college students from North Florida. When Matthew is not doing all things political, he is either golfing with his father and brother, or he’s cycling with his beautiful wife.

Angela Sofia Orrantia-McPherson

Santa Fe College

Angela Sofia Orrantia-McPherson was born in Miami, Florida. At the age of five, Sofia moved to Antwerp, Belgium where she attended elementary school. At the age of ten, she moved back to Miami, Florida to complete her middle school. After that, she started high school in South America where she learned Spanish. For her senior year of high school, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated at the age of sixteen. She took a gap year where she traveled to South America doing volunteer work. She is currently enrolled at Santa Fe College.

Brian Kaam

Florida Atlantic University

Hello! My name is Brian Kaam and I’m a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University. I’m double majoring in Economics and Criminal Justice, with a minor in Political Science. I plan on attending law school after graduation, and plan on becoming a prosecutor in the future. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis and swimming. Let’s have a great election year and get out the vote!

Christopher Johnson

Florida International University

Chris Johnson is a Campus Vote Project Fellow (CVPF) the President of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity (FIA) Incorporated and the Undergraduate Assistant Advisor for the Student Veterans of America (SVA) at Florida International University (FIU). Prior to working as, a CVPF at FIU he worked as the Information Technology Chair for the SVA and the Treasurer for FIA. His duties for the SVA and FIA included manager the chapters budget, maintaining accountability of all deposits and withdrawals and planning community service and professional development events at FIU. He has an Associate’s Degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Business and Technology from Howard Community College in Maryland. Before returning to college Chris served honorable in the Maryland National Guard for 12 years and deployed to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once earning a Bronze Star on his last tour of duty. Chris is excited to work with his fellow students at FIU and the community to encourage them to get involved in the democratic process. This includes but is not limited to increasing voter engagement, and providing greater voting access.

Jordan Thompson

Florida International University

Jordan Is a Miami native, attending Florida International University. Studying Political Science with a Concentration in Social Science Education and Ethics in Society, his academic workload matches his extracurricular catalog. From facilitating summer retreats for freshmen and transfer students to serving as the Overall Director for their Homecoming Council, Jordan hopes that these experiences shapes him to work in the field of Higher Education/Student Affairs. Jordan hopes to encourage his university to actively vote and stay engaged during all local and national election sessions.

Angelo Baldado

University of Central Florida

Angelo is a second year student at the University of Central Florida pursing a major in social work with a minor in theatre. He is a student athlete, involved with the UCF Spirit Team, Civic Engagement Director of Volunteer UCF, Student Orientation Coordinator, and a proud employee of the UCF Student Union. Angelo is a positive and fun individual who also loves to dance, specifically in the style of hip hop. After he graduates in 2019, he plans on volunteering with the Peace Corp. He is a proud American and is a believer that every single vote counts.

Stefanie Rodriguez

University of Miami

Stefanie Rodriguez is a junior studying political science at the University of Miami. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity that focuses on bettering the community on campus and in the greater Miami area, and is also a contributing writer for HerCampus at the University of Miami.

Stefanie is a member of Get Out the Vote (GOTV), a nonpartisan organization that focuses on voter education and civic engagement. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, Get Out the Vote hosts voter registration drives where students can register to vote in the state of Florida and ask any questions regarding the election. This year alone, GOTV has been able to register over 1,000 students in the state of Florida. She is a dedicated American, passionate about instilling democratic values to those around me. Being the daughter of Cuban immigrants, she is aware of the political injustices in many parts of the world. Her family came to America in search of a better life, a life that is filled with promise and hope, and it is this hope that she wants to continue to live by.
