WASHINGTON — In light of the recent racially motivated murders in Atlanta, Fair Elections Center states that we unequivocally stand with the Asian and Pacific Islander communities, who have for too long been victimized by racism and hatred.

The United Nations reports there is “an alarming level” of racially motivated violence against the Asian and Pacific Islander communities here in the U.S. In 2020, in this country there were more than 2,800 documented accounts of violence against this community, according to the Stop AAPI Hate organization. This week’s incident demonstrates that this trend is sadly continuing, and has been exacerbated by vitriolic language during the pandemic. Having to live in fear in your own country is unacceptable, and we as a society must do better and work to end these tragic events.

As an organization, we fully support the community-centered response to violence against Asian and Pacific Islanders communities and will continue to work alongside our friends and partners in the community to create more awareness and tolerance.

We have also embraced the community centered response in solidarity with the Atlanta AAPI community by signing on to this important statement found here.
